Dad and Dan climb Montagne de la Conte in the French Alps

Page 1

So after a pretty hectic three weeks in Europe for work, I officially clocked off at 4:00pm on Friday in Lyon for a weeks holiday. I caught a lift with the Claude, the head of Merging Technologies, to Geneva where he dropped me off and I met up with Dad Fento. Dad and I then hung around in Geneva (the city where i was born) for two days before catching the train right up into the French alps - to Chamonix - where we stayed for three days.

And on the second day there - we climbed.

This was one of the coolest things I've done in years - not only the amazing experience of climbing the mountain, but also was wonderful hanging out with Dad, who I really don't see enough of nowadays that he lives in Germany. So a 12 hour hike up the 'Montagne de la Conte' which is one of the fingers of mountain between two huge glaciers coming down towards Chamonix. Up towards the icy peaks and Mont Blanc itself. Amazing.

And a shout out to my Dad here - luv ya!

Dad and I in Chamonix

Cutsie Pie little Mountain town. Not as zhujjy
and 'money' as I expected...

And this is the bit we climbed.
Right between two massive Glaciers.

And this is a (very) rough sketch of the
path we took. The lighter, broken line
indicates we returned on the far side of the
mountain.

So here we start out, still fresh and smiling.
Pleasant little alpine meadows at the
base of the mountain.

And for a few hours we made solid progress,
path well defined...

...and soon the valley
lay far beneath us.

Georgeous!

And after a few hours - break for lunch.
Exquisite cheeses and cured meats with
crunchy bread. Yummo!

And the views slowly become more and more
spectacular as we gain height.

Dad and Dan.
(and some serious bloody mountains!)
