SO-CAL BABYLON

Sun, 17 Jun 2001:

Ah, tonight is hard to bear. As the sun sets over the low density sprawl that is Southern California, the friendliness seems to disappear into the fast moving lights of the freeways, gouged into the hills and as the temperature drops so too does a chill settle on my bones. Returning from 'Home Depot another wildly profilgate, massively convenient, all encompassing - consumer retail extravaganza - I realise that my time sitting by the pool in this plastic and blasted desert babylon is wasted.

Wasted as the salt bush screams to escape the roar of the motorways.

Wasted as the lives of these children fixated by gaudy baubles and plugged into a machine that has them pumping, controlled and pinioned by the most basic instincts into a mass, biological battery and energy source for the dark and shadowy forces that dictate the movement of this vast and soulless place.

Wasted as only the wandering lost can be….

Ahhh, amerika.
